Revision History of TranScan...
"The Premium FIle Scanner & Converter!"
Version 1.00 - 1.12 (Jul 91 - Aug 91)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The idea for TranScan was born several years ago when SysOps began
converting their files from ARC to PAK and then to ZIP format. I did
this by use of fancy batch files and I kept telling myself there had to
be a better way!
With the scare of Computer Viruses I started extracting all my uploads
and scanning them for viruses. I was doing this by hand and with
thousands of files I KNEW there MUST be a better way!
When Wildcat announced that Version 3+ would include a POST UPLOAD hook
for Scanning Uploads for Viruses I started outlining TranScan. Over the
fourth of July weekend in 1991 TranScan was born.
Version 2.00 - 2.37 (Aug 91 - Mar 92)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After just two months it became obvious that TranScan would do more
than just convert files and scan them for viruses. With Version 2.00 I
decided it was necessary to rewrite ALL the code. TranScan v2.00 also
directly updated the Wildcat databases, provided COM output, supported
import of File_Id.Diz & Desc.Sdi descriptions, Age or Date file
testing, DOS masks to the command line, GIF and TeleDisk file
processing and much more.
Version 3.00 - 3.13 (Mar 92 - Sep 92)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The features of TranScan were grow so fast it became impossible to
include enough command line switches to handle them all. With version
3.00 a configuration screen was added. Many other features were added
as well including online help, built in text editor, "DesqView Aware",
Min. Security Level Bypass, and much more.
Version 4.00 (Jan 93)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TranScan v4.00 is a complete rewrite of the program. It has so many
more features you should consult the docs for more information. The
MAJOR new features include:
* Pull down menus.
* External configuration file.
* COM Support using Uart, Digi, or Fossil.
* New COM Output display!
* Processes Self Extracting files.
* GIF Testing built in including Min. GIF Resolution testing. Imports
GIF Description and resolution.
* Supports up to 20 compression programs and up to 20 scanners.
* Writes messages to Wildcat message base thanking caller for upload
or telling them about any problems encountered.
* Filenames with wildcards "*" or "?" may be used in the
TRANSCAN.NOT, and TRANSCAN.DEL files.
* Support for almost ALL BBS Software. Direct support for Wildcat v3+
and Wildcat-IM, and PCBoard. More direct support for other BBSs
will be added in the near future.
* Up to 10 file masks can be included on the command line.
What's Next?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition to adding direct support to several other BBSs we are
planning to add the following features in the near future:
* Detection of AV Stamped files with option to Convert them or
leave the AV Stamp intact!
* Retain Volume Labels!
* Duplicate File CRC Testing!
